Step away from the tourist crowds and immerse yourself in the true spirit of tequila with a fully private experience. On this tour, you’ll uncover the secrets of additive-free tequila production and explore the fascinating history of the circular pyramids of Guachimontones, built by an ancient and long-lost indigenous civilization.
Unlike standard tours, we offer private transportation just for your group and an experienced English-speaking guide with over 7 years of expertise. This ensures a personalized journey at your own pace.
The tour is fully customizable to suit your interests and preferences. Everyone is welcome: solo travelers, couples, families with children, and groups of friends alike!
I can pick you up anywhere in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara, including Zapopan and Tlaquepaque.
After a scenic 1-hour drive from Guadalajara, your guide will lead you through the archeological site of Guachimontones, revealing fascinating facts about the indigenous civilization that flourished in Western Mexico 2000 years ago. Delve deeper into their mysteries with a visit to the on-site museum.
Next, we’ll visit a hidden gem: a family-owned tequila hacienda and distillery where additive-free tequila has been made using artisanal methods since 1942. On a private one-hour tour, you’ll uncover the secrets of tequila production while learning the key differences between artisanal and industrial types, and the current socio-political and environmental challenges faced by the industry. The experience concludes with a guided tasting of four tequilas, where you’ll learn the proper technique to fully appreciate their complex aromas and flavors. Take home a piece of the magic with factory-priced bottles! (Other distilleries such as La Fortaleza, Cascahuin, El Tequileño, Casa Atanasio, etc. are available upon request, subject to availability, additional fees might apply).
The next stop is the charming 16th-century village of Tequila. Savor an authentic regional lunch and sip on refreshing "cantarito" cocktails in the main square (a bright, fizzy, citrus-forward cocktail that balances tequila’s boldness with tangy fruit flavors). Stroll the village's colorful and lively plazas at your own pace while learning the town’s history in a fun and relaxed way.
As we return, we'll stop by the agave fields, a UNESCO Cultural Landscape of the Humanities. Take in the breathtaking scenery and capture stunning photos to commemorate this unique experience. The drive back to Guadalajara will take 1 to 2 hours, depending on traffic.
