The Cinque Terre and Portovenere are considered the most beautiful coastal villages in Italy. The Cinque Terre, until 1990 were only fishing villages. Your English-speaking driver will pick you up at 7:00 AM from your location in Pisa, Florence, or La Spezia Cruise Terminal. Along the highway, enjoy views of the Apuan Alps, where Renaissance masters like Michelangelo sourced their marble. Passing the Gulf of Poets and La Spezia, we’ll arrive at Cinque Terre Park.
Our first stop is Portovenere, strategically located at the entrance to the Gulf of La Spezia. This picturesque town, with its brightly colored harbor, boasts the stunning Church of San Pietro perched on rocky cliffs, medieval streets, and the iconic castle facing Palmaria Island. Nearby, Byron’s Cave offers breathtaking sea views.
The second stop is Manarola, perched on a rock 70 meters above the sea. Famous for its colorful houses cascading to the harbor, Manarola is one of the oldest Cinque Terre villages, dating to the 1300s. Its charming streets and stunning sea views make it a favorite for photographers.
Next is Vernazza, the fourth village heading north, known for its car-free streets, elegant houses, and natural harbor. A true fishing village, its name originates from the Latin verna, meaning "native."
The final stop is Monterosso, the largest of the Cinque Terre villages, divided into an old town and the newer Fegina. Surrounded by lemon groves and vineyards, its beaches, cliffs, and medieval ruins—including watchtowers to guard against pirates—make it unforgettable.
