Upon arrival we will start our experience inside the park, where you can discover the history of the ancient Mayan city while enjoying the natural environment of the jungle that surrounds Tikal.
Upon arrival we will have a moment to use the services and prepare for the visit. Then we will proceed to check the entrance tickets to the park. Tickets can be purchased online in advance or paid in cash at the park entrance. Then we will start a hike through the Mayan jungle, enjoying the quiet atmosphere of the afternoon. As we proceed along the trails, listen to birds, monkeys and enjoy the special atmosphere that is experienced in Tikal at sunset. During the afternoon we take a quiet walk along the park trails, where you can enjoy nature, hear birds and monkeys, and learn about the history of this ancient Mayan city. The experience ends with the beautiful sunset over the pyramids of Tikal, creating a unique moment in the middle of the jungle.
During our tour in Tikal National Park we visited the impressive Temple I (Great Jaguar), one of the most emblematic temples of the ancient Mayan city. This majestic temple was built around 700 AD and reaches approximately 47 meters high. It is believed to have been dedicated to the Mayan ruler Jasaw Chan Kʼawiil I, one of the most important kings of Tikal. During our sunset tour we will have the opportunity to admire this temple from the Great Plaza, where the sunlight at sunset illuminates the structure and creates a unique atmosphere in the middle of the jungle. It is one of the most special places to learn about the history of Tikal and enjoy the magic of the sunset.
During our tour in Tikal National Park we also visited the impressive Temple II, known as the Temple of Masks. This temple is one of the special places during our sunset tour, as from its surroundings you can see how the golden sunlight illuminates the Grand Plaza and the majestic Temple I (Great Jaguar). As evening falls, the forest changes its environment: birdsong mixes with the sounds of monkeys and the wind between trees. This moment creates a unique atmosphere in Tikal, perfect for enjoying the tranquility of the jungle as the sun begins to set on the horizon.
Temple III, known as the Temple of the High Priest. This temple rises above the jungle and forms part of the stunning landscape of Tikal. During the afternoon tour, warm sunlight begins to illuminate the Mayan structures and the jungle surrounding them, creating a special atmosphere in the park. As we walk along nearby trails, we can enjoy the tranquility of the jungle, listen to wildlife and appreciate how the ancient Mayan city is transformed with the colors of sunset.
During our tour of Tikal National Park we arrived at the impressive Temple IV, the tallest structure in the park, with about 65 meters high. From this point we can admire one of the most spectacular views of the Mayan jungle and Tikal, taking in the treetops and the pyramids that emerge between them. Its imposing architecture and history make it a perfect place to appreciate the grandeur of the ancient Mayan city and understand the importance of Tikal as a ceremonial center. This temple is also famous for having been the scene in a Star Wars scene, adding a modern touch to its impressive ancestral history.
The tour culminates in the iconic Lost World, one of the oldest and most fascinating squares in the park. This place functioned as an astronomical center of the Maya, where they could observe the sky and mark the change of the seasons, connecting daily life with Mayan cosmology. From here we have the opportunity to enjoy the sunset over Tikal, seeing how the last lights illuminate the pyramids and the jungle that surrounds them. The combination of history, architecture and nature creates a unique and unforgettable moment, perfect to close our tour in a magical way.
