Start your food journey in one of the most famous squares in town, where you will also see the iconic Horloge de la Palud, a mechanical clock that presents the history of Lausanne and Vaud region in animated scenes every hour. Nearby, in a local boucherie, you will have a taste of a less known version of the famous croissant: savoury, with ham and béchamel sauce. A great appetizer to start with!
In a charming fromagerie, located right near the Notre-Dame de Lausanne basilica - the first Catholic church in the region after the Protestant Reformation - you will have a taste of some of the most famous and beloved types of cheese from the Vaud region.
Try the traditional Rösti, a symbol of the Swiss cuisine: a fried potato pancake that you will eat in its Vaudois version, with sausage and raclette cheese on top. You will eat it inside one of the most ancient restaurants in town, opened in 1780!
Right in the old town, have a taste of the typical carac. It's a pastry made of a shortcrust pie filled with a rich mix of chocolate and cream and covered with a green sugar icing. Simply delicious!
After a delicious and gourmet stroll around the charming town of Lausanne, your culinary journey will end in a marvelous cafè - founded by a Maitre Chocolatier - where you will enjoy a delicious cup of hot chocolate. Chocolate is one of the most famous ingredients in Switzerland and it's definitely delicious in all its textures!
