Our dog carts let you explore the Arctic nature as it transitions from Autumn to Winter. Take charge and let the huskies lead the way on an unforgettable ride.
Whether you want to be a passenger or try your hand at steering the cart and the huskies is up to you. The ride takes you on a journey through the forest and along the banks of the Alta River, famous for its salmon fishing.
Our family joined their ranks over three decades ago. We have spent the years racing and learning about dogsledding. This knowledge is the foundation of the dog trips that we offer our guests.
You’ll get to experience the Arctic countryside, just as it is changing its colours and preparing for the oncoming winter.
What's Included
Meeting and pickup
Our pick-up point is in front of the Alta Tourist Office at 09:00. Please note that we do not provide alternative pick-up locations.
What to expect
Get a feeling of how mushers train their huskies in the autumn and experience the arctic forest as it changes colour. Like any other athletes, our huskies must train a lot before the racing season starts. The huskies are arctic dogs and do not enjoy running in temperatures above 15 °C. Training season starts in autumn when the temperatures fall, but before the first snow arrives. The ride takes you into the Arctic Forest as it changes into Autumn, past the Alta River and along the dirt roads where we have been training our race dogs for two generations.
- Pick up at 09:00: from Alta Tourist Office
- Equipment handout: Thermal suits, hat, gloves and boots (if the weather requires it)
Safety brief
- Approximately one-hour self-drive dog cart tour (depending on weather conditions)
- 2-3 Persons per cart
- Cuddle and praise the huskies for their effort
- Storytelling in Traditional Sami Lavvo with hot drinks and snacks
- Transport back to the Tourist Information in the centre of Alta
Additional info
- Infants are required to sit on an adult’s lap
- Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health
- Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
- The minimum age to participate in this experience is 5 years old. 5 - 12-year-old children are required to sit between an adult's legs on the sled. 13 - 15-year-old children are allowed to sit independently on the sled and can drive independently under the supervision of a guide. The minimum age for driving solo is 16 years old.
