Most memorials in India were built by kings for their queens. Rani ki Vav is the rare exception — a seven storey UNESCO stepwell built by a queen for her king, its walls covered in over 500 sculptures from the Hindu pantheon descending 23 metres into the earth.
Forty kilometres away the Modhera Sun Temple was built in 1026 AD on the Tropic of Cancer so that the first rays of the sun on the summer solstice fall directly onto the main shrine at the precise moment of sunrise.
In the weaving town of Patan, four weavers spend 100 days producing a single Patola saree in the double Ikat technique, the most complex weaving tradition in the world.
Three extraordinary places. One private day from Ahmedabad with an expert cultural guide.
Private car, expert guide, all entry fees and lunch included.

We will first visit a 11th century temple built for the Sun God. This magnificent temple was built by Bhimadeva I of the Solanki dynasty in the year 1026 on the banks of the river Pushpavati. The design of the temple is incredible. Located on the Trop of Cancer at 23.5 degrees latitude, the Sun Temple gets lit-up by the first rays of the sun on the summer solstice every year. The temple is built on a lotus shaped structure and is adorned with carvings from epics like Mahabharata, Ramayana and Kamasutra.
