Begin your 4-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech by getting picked up from your hotel or riad in Fes in the morning. Leave the city and head towards Ifrane.
In Ifrane, take a short 15-minute break and have a cup of coffee before continuing to the cedar forest of Azrou in the Middle Atlas Mountains.
In the cedar forest of Azrou, you'll get the chance to see the Barbary monkeys.
Drive to Merzouga via Midelt and along the Ziz Valley, a valley full of palm trees.
In the afternoon, reach Merzouga and enjoy your stay at a beautiful riad with stunning views of the golden sand dunes surrounding the town.
Start your day of exploration in the Merzouga desert with a delightful breakfast at your riad.
Your first destination is the small town of Khamlia, where you can listen to a unique style of music called Gnawa. The locals, originally from South African countries, play this captivating music.
Next, you'll embark on an off-road drive to M'Fis, an abandoned village that once had Galena mines. Galena is a mineral used in the production of Mascara.
During your adventure, you'll have the chance to learn about the nomadic lifestyle of a family living near the borders behind the Erg Chebbi Dunes. They invite you into one of their traditional Berber tents for a cup of tea. It's fascinating to discover how this ethnic group has chosen to live differently, far away from civilization.
In the afternoon, get ready for an exciting camel ride across the towering dunes of Merzouga to your desert camp. Along the way, you'll stop on a high dune to experience sandboarding while witnessing a breathtaking sunset. After dinner, unwind around a cozy campfire beneath the twinkling starry sky. The camp staff will play drums and happily teach you how to play them, adding to the enchantment of the night. Enjoy a truly magical experience.
Today, it's a good idea to wake up early to see a beautiful sunrise. After that, enjoy a tasty breakfast at your camp in the desert.
Then, you'll go on a fun trip by car to different places like Rissani, Erfoud, Tinghir, and Todra Gorge, on your way to Dades Gorge. If it happens to be a market day in Rissani (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday), you can choose to visit a traditional Moroccan market. It's a great way to experience the local culture and see how people live there. You'll find traditional crafts, spices, and street food that you can't easily find anywhere else.
You'll also have other stops along the way to take nice pictures and learn about the local people and their customs.
In the afternoon, you'll arrive at Dades Gorge, where your hotel for the night is waiting. You'll have dinner and spend the night at the hotel.
After a yummy breakfast at your hotel, you'll have the chance to explore the area. Then, you'll drive on the road with lots of Kasbahs to Ouarzazate.
In Ouarzazate, you have an option to visit the Atlas Studios or just take some pictures from outside.
Explore the Ait Ben Hadou Kasbah, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's famous because many movies like Gladiator, Prince of Persia, and Game of Thrones were filmed there.
Once you've had a delicious lunch, your journey will continue as you travel to Marrakech, crossing the amazing High Atlas Mountains. Along the way, you'll pass through several lovely Moroccan Berber villages. You'll have many stops during the trip.
