Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Dayanta)
Your next stop is the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, a towering Tang Dynasty landmark with a history of over 1,300 years. Initially constructed to preserve the Buddhist scriptures, sacred statues and cultural relics that the famous Monk Xuanzang brought back to China after his 17-year pilgrimage to India, the pagoda stands as a lasting symbol of ancient cultural exchanges between China and India. Wander through the serene grounds of the pagoda, admire its magnificent 7-story brick structure, and take in the tranquil ambiance of the adjacent Daci’en Temple.

The final stop of the day is the Xi’an City Wall—the largest and best-preserved ancient city wall in China, with origins dating back to the Ming Dynasty. Step onto the 12-meter-wide top of the wall and walk along the weathered gray-brick paths with your guide, passing ancient watchtowers and crenellations that have stood the test of time. Your driver and guide will meet you again at your hotel lobby in the morning, then drive you to Qianling Mausoleum—a scenic 1.5-hour drive from the city center. A one-of-a-kind imperial mausoleum in China, it is the joint resting place of two Tang Dynasty rulers: Emperor Gaozong Li Zhi and Empress Wu Zetian, the only female emperor in Chinese history.

Tomb of Emperor Tang Gaozong (Qianling)
Led by your guide, you’ll walk along the grand "Sacred Way", lined with elaborate stone statues of horses, court officials and foreign envoys, all the way to the main mausoleum area. You’ll visit the site’s most significant cultural relics, including the Shushengji Stele, which commemorates the great achievements of Emperor Gaozong, and the famous Unfinished Stele—said to be left blank by Empress Wu Zetian, leaving her legacy to be judged by history itself. You’ll also have the chance to explore the nearby museum, where you can view a stunning collection of cultural relics unearthed from the mausoleum, gaining a deeper insight into the politics and ancient funeral customs of the prosperous Tang Dynasty.
