1Basilica Papale e Sacro Convento di San Francesco d'Assisi
Basilica San Francesco d'Assisi, a must see. Having been proclaimed a Saint in 1228 by Gregory IX that the next day I laid the first stone of the current Basilica, it was finished on May 25th 1230. Looking at it from a distance it looks like a medieval stronghold but, in reality, there are 2 superimposed churches. The Lower and Upper Basilica is also a crypt with the tomb of San Francesco d'Assisi.

3Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli
This "Portiuncula" church was one of the first three to be restored by San Francesco who made it the center of Franciscanism.

4Basilica di Santa Chiara
Dedicated to Santa Chiara who already from the age of 18 left her wealthy family to join San Francesco and the first friars at the Santa Maria degli Angeli church. In the middle of the Basilica, from the stairs, you can access the Crypt with the body of Santa Chiara.
