The Ourika River flows from the High Atlas Mountains, through the valley and out of it at the end.It is a popular destination for trekkers who come to see a wide variety of birds and scenic landscapes. The valley is situated on the south side of the Ourika River, east of Marrakesh and west of Fez. It is located at an elevation between 500m and 1600m above sea level. The gorge in the valley reaches a depth of about 500m at its deepest point, with high mountains on both sides. There are several tributaries that enter the Ourika River in the valley.
