An exclusive two day private tour to a luxury vineyard in one of the highest altitude wine regions in the world. Originally founded in 1831, Colome winery is set in stunning landscape in the heart of the Valles Calchaquies in Salta, at the end of a long winding dusty road. Your arrival is richly rewarded with a refreshing glass of Torrontes, the emblematic white wine of this area. After a trip through the Parque Nacional de los Cardones and Los Colorados, luxuriate in the surroundings of this outstanding hotel. We will also visit the historic and picturesque towns of Molinos and Cachi. This trip is tailor-made to your tastes, in a private vehicle with an English-speaking driver/guide.
We pick up from all Salta hotels.
From the Valle de Lerma, we travel up the winding mountain road of the Cuesta del Obispo, reaching a height of nearly 3,500m at the peak of the Piedra del Molino.
The landscape changes completely from verdant green sub-tropical vegetation to the wide open desert plain of the Parque Nacional de los Cardones: peppered with candelabra cacti as far as the eye can see.
We travel through the breath-taking deep red landscape of Los Colorados and from Molinos follow a rough mountain road, with outstanding views at every turn, to arrive at Colome, a superb vineyard set like a jewel in the hills of the Valles Calchaquies.
This is the highest altitude wine region in the world, famous for its Torrontes white wine and red varieties of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and the lesser known Tannat, perfectly designed for the Argentine asado (barbecue). Colome is also developing varieties of Sauvignon Blanc, Bonarda and Pinot Noir. After wine tasting we will visit the James Turrell museum, a stunning exploration of how light plays with and deceives human perception.
we will have time in the nearby colonial town of Molinos, visiting the 17the century church and the hacienda which was the home of the last royalist governor under Spanish rule two centuries ago.
We will have lunch here and explore the mountain town of Cachi, with its picturesque cactus-roofed church. We will find time to visit at least one of the excellent boutique wineries here before heading back to Salta.
