You cannot come to Bilbao without approaching this traditional town, even if it is to taste the dish that has made it famous: its sardines! There is almost nothing left of those times when Santurtzi was the most important port for inshore fishing and was visited by the romantic figures of the sardines !!
The Fishermen's Guild, the docks, the boats and the sardines were a reflection of that reality.
You cannot miss the fish market, today home to the Santurtzi Itsasoa Museum.
Discover the beautiful panoramic view of the Bahía del Abra, the open-air sculpture museum, the fishing port and the Paseo de la Reina Victoria where you can appreciate the maritime past of this unique Biscayan town. Ride a stranded fishing boat or find the mystery of corsairs and pirates.
