The Selous Game Reserve, with an area of about 55,000 sq. km, is the largest well-watered wildlife sanctuary in Africa, and one of the largest protected areas in the world. Its size is simply stunning, bigger than Switzerland, uninhabited and little touched by human interference. It is perhaps the most pristine wilderness still remaining in Africa, with a wide variety of wildlife habitats, including open grasslands, Acacia and miombo woodlands, swamps and riverine forests in the many tributaries of the mighty Rufiji River which flows through the reserve. Due to its unique ecological importance, it was designated a World Heritage Site by the United Nations in 1982. Its wildlife is spectacular, with some of its mammal and reptile populations the largest in Africa, namely buffaloes, elephants, hippos, wild dogs and crocodiles.

2Selous Game Reserve
In the morning you’ll be picked up from your hotel and driven to Selous Game Reserve arriving in time for a hot lunch. In the late afternoon you’ll go on a thrilling boat safari on the Rufiji River where you’ll see hippos and crocodiles in their natural habitat. Your guide will also be able to point out interesting birds and plant species during this trip. Accommodation: Lodge. Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

3Selous Game Reserve
After breakfast, you’ll have a full day of game viewing in Selous Game Reserve taking a packed lunch with you if you wish to maximize your game drive time. Selous Game Reserve is bigger than Switzerland and Denmark so it takes a long time to explore properly but your guide will know the best places to go. These will be special days spent exploring the wilderness in the biggest game reserve in Africa and viewing diverse wildlife which includes lion, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, elephant, wild dog and so much more. You might even see the rare Sable antelope! Accommodation: Lodge. Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

4Selous Game Reserve
After breakfast, check out from the lodge and travel back to Dar es Salaam. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the port for your boat ride to Zanzibar. Upon arrival at Zanzibar, you will be picked up and transferred to the kichanga Hotel for an overnight stay. Accommodation: Kichanga Hotel Meals: Breakfast and dinner.

After breakfast, depart for a tour of Stone Town. In the late afternoon, you will be transferred to the port for the boat ride to Dar es Salaam. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to Mwalimu Nyerere International Airport for your flight home.
