Next, we head to Zrinjevac, a green space in the city. This park is a favorite spot for nature lovers and a key part of Zagreb's social life.
Our main walking tour begins at Ban Jelačić Square, named after a 19th-century viceroy. This square is the heart of the city and a popular meeting place for locals.
From here, we will explore Kaptol, the center of the Catholic Church in Croatia. You'll see the Zagreb Cathedral, the largest cathedral in Croatia, known for its architecture and historical significance. The cathedral stands as a testament to the city's endurance through time.
After Kaptol, we head to the Dolac market. This farmer's market is full of fresh produce, local delicacies, and colorful stalls, offering a true taste of Zagreb.
We then move towards Tkalčićeva Street and Bloody Bridge, the ancient border between Kaptol and Gradec. Today, Tkalčićeva is a pedestrian street lined with cafes, bars, and shops, making it a hub of social life in the city.
Our tour continues through Radićeva Street towards the Stone Gate, the last preserved city gate. The Stone Gate now serves as a small chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary and is a place of pilgrimage for many locals.
In Gradec, we'll see the Church of St. Mark, known for its colorful tiled roof. The square surrounding the church is the center of Croatia's political life, with important buildings such as the Croatian Parliament, Government Building, Town Hall, and Constitutional Court located here.
Next, we'll walk through the streets to see the church of St. Cyril and Methodius and St. Catherine's Square. We'll also see the Lotrščak Tower, the only preserved fortress from the 13th century. This tower offers a view of the city and houses the Grič cannon, which fires every day at noon.
Just a few steps away is the Funicular, one of Zagreb's main attractions. This is the shortest cable car in the world and connects the Lower Town and Upper Town, offering a quick and scenic ride.
We continue to Ilica Street, one of the oldest and longest streets in Zagreb. This street is the main shopping area in the Lower Town, filled with boutiques, cafes, and historic buildings.
Finally, we see the Croatian National Theatre, a cultural landmark in Zagreb. This building is home to many Croatian artists and performers and hosts a variety of performances, including opera, ballet, and drama.
