What to expect

Join us for a winter taster day to help build the knowledge required for safe and efficient winter hill walking or just choose to be guided on a winter hill walk.

The event will aim to give you an overview of the skills and considerations required to head out safely on the hill in winter. It will be coached in the context of a mountain journey and topics covered will be dependent on weather and underfoot conditions.

Prerequisites:
This course is directed to those looking for an introduction to winter. Ideally you should have summer hill walking experience. Walking in winter requires a good level of fitness.

What we will aim cover depending on conditions:
- Choosing the right kit for winter
- Personal movement skills on snow
- Use of crampons and ice axe
- Winter navigation techniques
- Avalanche awareness, safe route planning
- Emergency procedures

  • Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health
