We will pick up all travelers from their place around Gondar or Debark
Gondar – Simien Mountains (Sankaber Camp) After hotel checkout or arrival at Gondar airport, we drive to Debark, gateway to the Simien Mountains. Here, we arrange park entry and meet our scout. If time allows, enjoy tea or coffee and visit the local market—especially vibrant on Wednesdays and Saturdays. From Debark, we drive 16km to the park gate, then continue to the trek’s starting point (flexible based on interest and time). Expect stunning escarpments, unique flora, and encounters with endemic Gelada baboons. You may also spot klipspringers, bushbucks, and various bird species. The trek concludes at Sankaber Camp, where we spend the first night.
After breakfast, begin a 7-hour, 15km trek from Sankaber to Chennek. Hike along dramatic escarpments with views over 800m drops. Pass through lush zones of Giant Heather, Abyssinian Rose, and Globe Thistle. Spot Gelada baboons, Klipspringer, bushbuck, and possibly a leopard. A highlight is Jinbar Falls—a 500m drop, Ethiopia’s highest. Watch for vultures like Lammergeier, Griffon, and Hooded Vulture. The area is also rich in birdlife, including the endemic Abyssinian Catbird. Enjoy a picnic by Jinbar River, then ascend Mt. Inatye (approx. 500m climb) for spectacular views. After lunch on the summit, descend through open grassland and Giant Lobelia to Chennek Camp (3,620m), nestled below Mt. Bwahit. This area offers some of the best wildlife viewing, including Walia Ibex and Geladas. Overnight at Chennek Camp.
Start the day with a short trek from Chennek along the escarpment, with views of Mt. Emet Gogo (3,926m). If time allows, ascend to 4,000m or even Mt. Bwahit (4,430m), the second-highest peak in Ethiopia. Expect sightings of the rare Walia Ibex, vultures, and other birds. The trail features unique high-altitude flora like Lobelia, everlasting flower, Erica arborea, St. John’s Wort, and Festuca grass. In the early afternoon, return to camp and drive back to Gondar.
