Learn some incredible survival techniques in the Central Canadian Rockies. Sharpen your bushcraft skills, and enjoy an amazing two day experience in the breathtaking Kootnay Plains on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River just outside Nordegg, Alberta. This intro survival and bush-craft training provides an introduction to basic outdoor skills and northern bushcraft. Participants will focus equal amounts on theory, outdoor awareness, being properly prepared, tricks and techniques to keep you alive in emergency situations and a lot of practical bushcraft skills. Participants will gain knowledge, which can be used in a wide variety of outdoor scenarios all the way from camping, hunting, canoeing, or hiking. We provide opportunities to hone and develop new abilities, and we include one night spent sleeping in your very own improvised survival shelter.

    Day 1 - Intro Survival Course

    9:30 am: Meet and greet, introduction to your instructor(s). From Shunda Creek we drive approximately 40 km to our training location into the heart of the Rocky Mountains.

    10:30 am-5:00 pm: At Kootnay Plains we set up base camp. We start by covering what precautions to take and dangers to avoid. Proper equipment and priorities during emergencies. We move to how to make survival fires and shelters under adverse conditions. The emphasis of the course is on developing practical and useful bushcraft and overall outdoor skills. We also cover useful knots. Tonight there is the opportunity to sleep in your very own survival shelter.

    9:00 am - 11:00 am: In the morning we continue with topics introduced on the previous day.

    In the afternoon we go for a hike as we cover how to navigate in the outdoors. useful and medicinal plant identification. If time permits we will move on to more advanced survival topics including: finding alternative food sources, basic traps and snares, making improvised rope or cordage, as well as survival saws. The course will wrap up by late afternoon or early evening.
