Hout Bay means Wood Bay, as most of the timbers used to build Cape Town came from this area. It is very often reffered to as a Republic of Hout Bay by the Locals because its being alone geographically. Top attractions here are the World of birds, Africa's biggest birds sanctuary and its famous short boat trips to the Seal Island, where more than 50.000 Cape fur seals have made a permanent home.
