Take a hike up Tanzania’s picturesque Mount Meru on a 4-day excursion. Trek through the scenic wilderness and keep an eye out for the local wildlife such as elephants, giraffes, monkeys, and more. Reach heights of just over 14,000 feet and admire the panoramic views of the African savannah and the nearby Mount Kilimanjaro. This tour is a mix of camping and lodges and includes meals for the entire tour.

    Day 1

    Arusha to Mount Meru

    Your hotel pickup happens at 8AM from Arusha, then you're driven to Momella Gate where registration gets sorted and a park ranger joins your group. The trek starts through open grassland where you'll likely spot buffalo crossing through clearings. By afternoon you'll reach Miriakampa Hut with views stretching across the plains toward Kilimanjaro.

    Miriakampa Hut to Saddle Hut

    This day involves a steep, sustained climb from Miriakampa Hut through montane forest. You'll see hygenium abyssinica, nuxia congesta, podocarpus, and hypericum tevolutum trees draped in mosses and lichens covering the path. Around midday the landscape shifts as you reach the alpine zone and arrive at Saddle Hut.

    Saddle Hut Summit Trek and Descent

    An intense morning push takes you steeply to Rhino Point at 3800m/12,467ft, then the trail follows a narrow ridge of ash and rock to Cobra Point at 4350m/14,272ft. After enjoying brunch back at Saddle Hut, you'll retrace your steps descending to Miriakamba Hut for the night.

    Descent to Momella Gate and Return to Arusha

    Arusha

    After a relaxed morning, you'll take the direct descent through open grassland which takes 2 to 3 hours. By late morning Momella Gate appears where you'll get your summit certificate and say goodbye to your crew. A short picnic lunch follows, then a game drive before heading back to Arusha.
