Tucked in the forest surrounded by Kirishima's beautiful nature, Kirishima Shrine is one of Kirishima's leading power spots said to be filled with mystical energy, and is dedicated to Ninigi-no-Mikoto, the protagonist of the myth of Tenson Korin where the sun goddess's grandson descended to earth. The interior of the shrine is lavishly decorated, and the main hall, worship hall, and offering hall are designated as national treasures. The shrine building interior will not be visited.
The tour will make a stop at Kirishima Roadside Station in the Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park. Behold the impressive Kirishima Mountains and Kinko Bay spreading out below. There are also restaurants and shops selling local specialties in the area. Customers can purchase their own lunch here. Enjoy trekking at Ebino Kogen, a nature-rich highland with an altitude of 1,200 m in the Kirishima Mountains. Starting from the Ebino Eco Museum Center, embark on a 2-hour walk along a course overlooking the crater lake. While walking, relish the various natural landscapes that make up Kirishima, such as the beautiful cobalt blue lakes Rokukannonmiike and Fudoike, and Karakunidake, the highest peak of the Kirishima Mountains. The trekking course and duration may change depending on volcanic activity and mountain trail restrictions.
To the southwest of the Kirishima Mountains lies the hot spring village of Kirishima Onsenkyo, home to 9 hot springs of various sizes with water that springs from Mt. Kirishima. After having enjoyed the magnificent nature nurtured by the Kirishima Mountains, spend the last leg of the tour at Maruo Falls, called "Yunotaki" for its flowing hot spring water. The waterfall is 23 m high and 16 m wide, and has a milky blue color that creates a rare, unique atmosphere.
