Then we visit The Old Kyiv's Hill where according to the legend the oldest brother of the founders of Kyiv Kyi began his reign in the distant 5th century. You will see the remains of the foundation of the Church of Tithe. The baptism of Kyivan Rus began from this place. Here, Prince Vladimir built the first largest stone Orthodox church of Kyivan Rus. Also we will see The Idol of the Pagan God Perun made from wood, the 400 years old Linden Tree, little pretty Tithe Church of the Navity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and amazingly beautiful view on the Lower City Podil.
The current structure of the church began when Russian Empress Elizabeth decided to construct a summer residence for herself in Kyiv, consisting of a palace and a church. The church was constructed in 18th century, to a design by the Italian architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli. The church has no bells, as according to legend, their noise would cause flooding of the left part of the city.
It is the main Cathedral of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and there is a functioning monastery on the territory. The Cathedral was completely destroyed in 1930's by Soviet regime.
Maidan Nezalezhnosti (literally: the Independence Square) is the heart of the modern Kyiv, its main and the most beautiful square that has become the symbol not only of the Ukrainian capital, but of the whole country. Being significantly transformed in the last ten years, it turned into the favourite walking place of Kyiv's locals and its numerous guests. Today it is the capital's most famous and visited sight.
