Safari guide, Kalum, has been
organising tours to Minneriya National
Park for over 15 years and possesses a
great understanding of the behaviour and
routines of the elephants in the national
park. He suggested that we would have a
better experience by having our tour in
the morning when there are fewer cars
and more private encounters with the
elephants, rather than opting for the
afternoon tour, which might have allow us
to see more elephants but also a lot more
cars, clearly spoiling our experience. We
skeptical about making
this
were
decision, but we chose to trust Kalum's
expertise and experience. Right from the
start, our guide took a different direction
than all the other safari vehicles, resulting
in us having private, close encounters
with the elephants. Kalum did his best to
position his vehicle in a way that allowed

What to expect
With around 15 years of experience in the safari industry, Kalum offers a friendly, professional and authentic wildlife experience, helping guests explore the park safely while learning about Sri Lanka’s wildlife, forests and local environment.
Hurulu Eco Park is part of the wider Hurulu Forest Reserve and Biosphere Reserve, located in Sri Lanka’s dry zone near Habarana. The area is an important wildlife habitat and forms part of the wider elephant movement corridor connecting the Habarana region with nearby wildlife areas such as Minneriya and Kaudulla.
The main attraction of a Hurulu safari is the opportunity to observe wild Sri Lankan elephants in their natural environment. you may see:

• Spotted deer
• Wild buffalo
• Grey langurs and other monkeys
• Wild boar
• Peacocks
• Eagles and other birds of prey
• Kingfishers and water birds
• Monitor lizards
• Other reptiles and smaller wildlife
Leopards and sloth bears are also part of the wider wildlife of the region, but they are rare and never guaranteed. Wildlife sightings depend on natural conditions and animal movements
