Ascend to the majestic Irazú Volcano, Costa Rica’s highest peak at 3,432 meters (11,000 feet) above sea level. Along the way, admire the fertile farmlands where potatoes, onions, and garlic thrive in the rich volcanic soil. After exploring the crater and panoramic views, descend to Cartago, the country’s former capital, to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels, a sacred pilgrimage site since 1635. Continue through the lush Orosi Valley to Hacienda Orosi Hot Springs, featuring seven natural thermal pools with continuous flow at 36°C–38°C (97°F–100°F). Relax in this pristine environment, enjoy a volcanic mud bath known for its skin-revitalizing properties, and finish with a traditional Costa Rican lunch overlooking the forest—an unforgettable day of nature, culture, and relaxation.

The tour will begin with us trekking south along the Panamerican Highway until we reach the base of the behemoth “Iztaru” (a name of an indigenous village that was situated on the flanks of the volcano, and a likely candidate as a possible origin for the current name of the Irazu Volcano). The winding road traverses fertile lands in which all types and forms of vegetation are cultivated, all the while affording us a spectacular panoramic view of the surrounding hills and valleys. And, at the very top of the summit, on a clear day, one can be privy to an unforgettable bird’s eye view of both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
A renowned pilgrimage site for many believers—some walking for days or even weeks as an act of faith—the Basilica features impressive vaulted ceilings and stunning stained-glass windows. It’s truly a must-see landmark in Costa Rica.
Your journey continues through the Orosi Valley, one of Costa Rica’s most scenic and tranquil regions, surrounded by lush green mountains and sweeping views of the Turrialba and Irazú Volcanoes. Your final destination, Hacienda Orosi, is a beautiful countryside estate offering an authentic Costa Rican experience. Explore its coffee plantations, working farm, and nature trails, and enjoy some of the region’s best birdwatching opportunities. At the Hacienda Orosi Hot Springs, relax in seven natural thermal pools with a continuous flow of mineral-rich waters, maintaining soothing temperatures between 36°C and 38°C (97°F–100°F). Rejuvenate your senses with a volcanic mud bath, famous for its restorative and skin-nourishing properties. We conclude the day with a traditional Costa Rican lunch overlooking the serene forest—a perfect finale to an unforgettable experience that blends nature, culture, and relaxation in the heart of the Orosi Valley.
