On this day, you will depart from Arusha, the main hub for safaris in northern Tanzania, commencing on a scenic drive along the Arusha-Dodoma highway towards Tarangire National Park. Along the way, there's an option to stop at a supermarket for any last-minute personal shopping. Passing through the picturesque Masai Steppe, you will reach Tarangire in about two hours. Known for its high concentration of elephants and iconic baobab trees, Tarangire offers year-round wildlife viewing opportunities, with herds sometimes exceeding 300 animals. After a picnic lunch, you'll head to your Camp or Lodge in Manyara (Mto wa Mbu)/Karatu for an overnight stay, arriving before sunset.
From Manyara (Mto wa mbu), we set off early after breakfast, embarking on a scenic drive across the floor of the Great Rift Valley. As we ascend the escarpment and traverse the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you'll be treated to stunning vistas along the way to Serengeti National Park. You have the option to break up the drive with a visit to the Olduvai Gorge Museum, known as the Cradle of Mankind, where you can explore some of the oldest fossil evidence of human habitation and learn about the human journey. Upon arrival in the Serengeti in the afternoon, we'll embark on an exciting game drive until evening, followed by check-in at a camp or lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Lunch will be enjoyed at one of the picnic sites, likely at Naabi Hill Gate, providing an opportunity to stretch your legs while your guide handles registration and paperwork.
Early morning, after breakfast, we embark on a full game drive in central Serengeti, renowned for its diverse wildlife including lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, cheetah, gazelle, and giraffe. Witness a stunning sunrise over the savannah as predators begin their hunt. We explore the Sogore River Circuit, spotting lions, gazelles, and cheetahs. Visit the Visitor Centre for wildlife displays and enjoy a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, we follow the Kopjes Circuit, known for lion sightings. These granite outcrops provide shade and water, attracting wildlife. After the game drive, we return to the lodge for overnight stay.
Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in the Serengeti, with a lunch break at the lodge. Serengeti, meaning "endless plains" in Masai, is home to carnivores like leopard, lion, hyena, and cheetah, and hosts the annual wildebeest migration from the Kenyan Mara. The park boasts over 3 million large mammals, including the "big 5" and a variety of bird species. In May or early June, witness the spectacular migration northwards. After lunch, continue game viewing in Serengeti before heading to Ngorongoro. Dinner and overnight at a Camp or Lodge at the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater.
After breakfast, we descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for an extensive 7-hour game drive, accompanied by a packed lunch. Formed by a massive volcanic eruption millions of years ago, the crater now houses a rich diversity of wildlife, including the renowned Big Five. Its natural barriers make it one of Africa's most densely populated wildlife areas, home to around 30,000 animals, including the endangered black rhino. Supported by abundant water and food sources, the crater sustains a variety of species, from herds of wildebeest and elephants to predators like lions, cheetahs, and leopards. After lunch and the game drive, we head to Manyara or Karatu for overnight stay.
Today we drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a full day of game drives. This is one of Tanzania’s smaller parks but still offers a rewarding and diverse safari experience. Lake Manyara National Park is an unspoiled paradise of ground water forest fed by underground springs and teeming with wildlife such as elephants, hippos, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, and some of the largest baboon troupes in Africa. The lake shore at Manyara teems with birdlife, and while you are looking for the birds, you might spot one of the elusive tree-climbing lions, and people flock from all over the world to see these iconic predators lounging in the trees. There are a surprising number of other large mammals and the striking cliffs on the Rift escarpment form a dramatic backdrop. After game Drive we drive back to Arusha or Moshi for overnight
