Your experience is designed by Bruce Thomas, who established an award-winning winery from the ground up and is keen to share his knowledge and love of wine. You’ll gain a genuine understanding of what makes the Waipara Valley so distinctive — from its limestone soils to its cool-climate elegance.
Savour a relaxed morning tea made with local ingredients, followed by two boutique winery visits, including a seasonal lunch at a local winery (not included in price). Finish your day at another family-run cellar door, where you’ll taste exceptional small-lot wines that showcase the diversity of this remarkable region.

Meeting and pickup
Free shuttle buses take passengers from the ship to Cashel Street, Christchurch.
Our van and guide will be waiting there. The tour start time is usually 9.30am. Please make an effort to get off the ship early to be at the carpark just after 9.00am. Some ships arrive later and you will be advised of the appropriate departure time.

Our local guide will collect you from the port or central Christchurch. Your journey to the Waipara Valley features an enlightening commentary about the landscape, history of the area, and the wine industry. Your first stop will be for a sumptuous morning tea and a chance to stretch your legs. Then we visit several locally owned wineries for cellar door tastings and a vineyard lunch. Your guide has been closely involved in the local wine industry and is keen to share their inside knowledge and answer any questions you may have about wine and the Waipara region.

At the conclusion of the tour you will be driven back to the Port with the opportunity along the way to stop and take in the unique landscapes of the North Canterbury region.
