Discover the wines and flavours of Andalucuian village life with an enthusiastic, local qualified wine guide. Learn about the traditions and the customs of village life from the locals. Enjoy listening to the proud stories of the local way of life, whilst relaxing on a terrace, sipping back some delicious wine, overlooking the beautiful, dramatic countryside of the Axarquia. Please note we work with several wineries in the Axarquia, the itinerary shown is just an example. The choice of wineries will vary depending on availability.
You will be picked up from your holiday accommodation and driven through the rolling hills of Axarquia, to Competa, where your day begins. You will visit the whitewashed village of Competa and learn about its fascinating history, before visiting one of the most emblematic wineries in the area, that was originally a resin factory. You will visit the small boutique winery and sample the range of sweet wines, dry whites and rosés accompanied by an aperitif, on the winery terrace, overlooking the stunning Axarquia landscape, with the sea as a backdrop. You will learn about their heroic farming techniques and you will see first-hand the challenges of producing wine in the Axarquia. The Axarquia was recognised as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS), by UNESCO in 2018 for its heroic farming techniques.
You will then be driven to the whitewashed village of Sayalonga, where you will visit the local winery and learn how this Dutch couple converted their plot of vineyard into a modern, slate built winery, respecting the landscape and traditions of the past. After visiting the winery we will enjoy a traditional Andalucian lunch in the town square, before driving back to the coast.
