The Marangu Route has been nicknamed the 'Coca Cola' route, many climbers think that Marangu route is an easy route to summit because you will sleep in huts compared to other routes where you sleep in tents. There is also optional acclimatization day at Horombo huts, this acclimatization is suggested for climbers with no previous mountain trekking experience. The route starts from the park headquarters in the village of Marangu and heads straight westwards towards Kibo. The trail goes through lush rain-forest, heath and moorland to alpine desert and ultimately the arctic zone at the peak and same route down.
On this Day, you will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your arranged Hotel in Moshi, you will meet your guide for briefing and equipment check. Any missing mountain gear can be rented on this day.
After breakfast, our driver will pick you from your hotel to Marangu gate where you will meet your climbing crew. We will complete some paper work and few other authority requirements at the gate. Once done, your trek will start and you will soon be walking up the mountain through the dense rainforest. Alongside the impressive vegetation, there is a chance to see some primates as you treck to Mandara Hut. After a rest, your guide shall take you to the Maundi Crater to enjoy the magnificent view of the Kenyan interior.
You will have early breakfast on this day, after you have left Mandara Hut to timberline and then enter the moor zone. About 4 – 6 hours later you will be at the Horombo Hut standing at an altitude of 3700m. From here hut, you will have a very nice views of Mawenzi, Kibo and the wide plain of the Masai steppe
Long day and a little bit tough, the well-built trail passes the “Last Water point” which is followed by the so-called “saddle”. There is less or none vegetation in this area, the plateau joins the main summit Kibo with Mawenzi. Your destination will be the Kibo Hut that is usually reached in about 5 - 6 hours. At Kibo hut, you will have good and an early evening meal followed by an early night because it will be short night.
Today is your Big Day - the summit day. It starts almost midnight which will be long and strenuous. Passing the Hans Meyer Cave at 5220m, the hike slowly goes upwards. At sunrise, you will reach the crater rim of Kilimanjaro, the Gillman’s Point (5681m) –– where the sun will slowly start to warm up the land. This is when you will forget the cold of the night and after 1 - 2 hours climb, you will reach Uhuru Peak at 5895m. Celebrate your summit day by taking pictures. The return back to Kibo Hut for a warm meal followed by a 1 – 2 hour break before going back down to Horombo Hut.
The last stage passes via the moor zone to the Mandara Hut (2700m) for lunch. Soon, you will once again pass the tropical rainforest and after a total time of 6 hours trekking, you will be back at the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1860m). You will now say bye-bye to your mountain guides, our diver will transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi. Once there, you can take a warm and relaxing shower and celebrate your success in reaching the summit of the Kilimanjaro.
The day is left free to relax and finalize your preparation after the trek before flying back home. Subjected to your flight time, you could go and explore Arusha or Moshi town, grab some souvenirs before heading to the airport. Your driver will be ready to take you to the airport.
