Jeita Grotto is one of those places that is genuinely as good as everyone says it is — which is rare. A UNESCO tentative World Heritage Site and top-five finalist in the New 7 Wonders of Nature, Jeita Grotto is a network of limestone caves stretching 9 kilometres beneath the Lebanese mountains. The upper cave is explored on foot — stalactites and stalagmites up to 8 metres tall surrounding you in every direction, built over millions of years into shapes that look almost intentional. The lower cave is navigated by silent electric boat along an underground river, gliding through chambers where the darkness and the formations combine into something genuinely otherworldly. You come out the other end having seen one of the most extraordinary natural spaces on the planet. Thirty minutes from Beirut.

Harissa cable car — the ride above Jounieh Bay From underground to above the clouds in under an hour — board the Harissa Téléférique at the Jounieh seafront and ride 650 metres above sea level as Jounieh Bay spreads out beneath you and the Lebanese mountains fill the horizon ahead. The views on the ascent are genuinely spectacular — the kind of aerial perspective of the Lebanese coast that most people only see from a plane window. The cable car ride itself is one of the most exhilarating experiences Lebanon offers, and the 20 minutes goes faster than you want it to.

3The Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon
At 650 metres above the Mediterranean, the iconic bronze statue of Our Lady of Lebanon stands with arms outstretched toward the sea — 8.5 metres tall, visible for miles, and surrounded by the Maronite Basilica and churches that make Harissa one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the Middle East.
