Itinerary

Duration: 3 days (approximately)
    Day 1

Drive to Phedi, trek to Dhampus

    1 stop
  • 1
    Phedi Khola

Early morning drive to Phedi; the drive is about 1 hour-about 40 km north-west of Pokhara city. We drive through a large Tibetan camp at Hyanjha where local craftsmanship can be bought and Tibetan carpet weaving can be observed. The next village is Suikhet, before Phedi. Suikhet offers alternative route to Dhampus depending on weather, physical and logistical condition. The road to Phedi in the YamdiKhola (river) valley is pretty good. You start climbing up hill from Phedi to Dhampus (1770 m). Walking up the stairs through the terraced rice field takes about 2 hours.

  • Day 2

    Australian Camp (2232 m.)

    1 stop
  • 2

The trail climbs steadily and gradually up from Dhampus to Pothana (1890 m). The gradual uphill walk is about 2 hours. Instead of taking the main trail to Ghandrung (1951 m), one of the most well-known villages on Annapurna's foothill above Modi Khola (river), you take the trail to Australian Camp (2232 m). It is a well-known name and has a viewpoint to see the Himalayan range all around. The Pothana trail turns southwest towards Khare (1524 m) and Naun Danda (1457 m). In the beginning you make about 45 minutes of gradual uphill ascending. You continue to descend the trail to Khara (1457 m) after spending sometime at the vantage point; it should take an easy downhill walk of about an hour.

  • Day 3

Trek to Sarangkot(1592 m.) and descend

    1 stop
  • 3
    Sarangkot

There are two alternate trails on the last day, either walking to Sarangkot or going down to Phedi for driving to Pokhara. The walk from Naun Danda to Sarangkot (1592 m) on the Kaski ridge is really pleasant. The walk is with open space all the way up on the level ridge. One can see the views of Annapurna and Machapuchhre throughout. Although the gravel road runs parallel to the trail, walking along it is nice. The day hike from Naun Danda to Sarangkot can take about 4 hours. Sarangkot is a popular tourist and local viewpoint for viewing the surrounding view and the Himalayas. You can descend to Phewa Lake and take boat to Pokhara depending on your time from Sarangkot and return back to kathmandu
