Once the capital from 1672 to 1727. Now the agricultural capital of Morocco. A guided walk through the old city learning a bout Meknes ancient history from when it was the Capital of Morocco. Meknes has some stunning architecture and gates to the city. A lot of monuments and historical sites ! this city seems forgotten and not very touristic such as Fes and Marrakech. This is a walled city that is smaller than the Medina of Fes. Still ilt has intersting sites like the granary and the stables and a prison. It still has the typical shops and narrow streets in the souk
These ancient ruins of the city of Volubilis is what remains of an outpost on the southwestern frontier of the Roman Empire. Established 2300 years ago, what is visible of the city is a wonder of engineering, architecture, and technology which provides a portal through which we can view and imagine lifestyles. Standing along the ridge of this gently sloping city looking out across the rolling hills of Morocco we experience not just the juxtaposition of time but the curious surrealistic interpretation of space. For all intents and purposes the visitor finds themselves walking through a European city here in northern Africa. We find ourselves experiencing a suggestion of what life may have been like thousands of years ago, retracing steps of ancestors as they must’ve strolled across the streets and passageways and lived out their lives in what we can see as humble dwelling spaces or for the fortunate few, opulent mansions paved with intricate mosaic tiles.
This is the holy city in Morocco and very meaningful. As a non muslim you can walk around the square and then past the mausoleum and walk the narrow streets to a terrace up top. Good views ..Just sit on the terrace and enjoy a lemonade
On this day you'll visit the final step of our tour, a magnificent city like Chefchaouen, full of blue and where you get so much inspiration. You have free time during the day to enjoy the small city and its streets, before going to your hotel to spend the night. on request you can hire our driver to return back to Marrakech if you have a flight from there or continue to rabat and casablanca before returning to Marrakech or whatever was your end up destination.
