    Kolsay Lakes

    1 stop
  • 1

Kolsay lakes are located in the Kul-say gorge, in the Northern spurs of the Kungei-Alatau range. It is here that the three mountain lakes Kolsay -1, Kolsay-2, Kolsay-3 are located at an altitude of 1700 m, 2250 m and 2700 meters above sea level. The depth of the lakes themselves is also impressive: the deepest place on the first lake is 80 m, on the second - 50 m. They were formed due to landslides at the bottom of the gorge, when the rapid mountain river stopped running at the dams. The distance from Almaty to the first Kolsay lake is 295 km. It stretches for 1.5 km in length and is sandwiched in a narrow gorge. Spruce trees are much higher than on other lakes, the water is much warmer, and fishing enthusiasts can enjoy their favorite pastime here. Going to the middle lake Kolsay-2, the route passes along the gorge, where you can see a delightful picture of the water flow. Kolsay-1 has a tourist campsite. A 3-hour walk will take you to the second lake, whose surroundings are a Paradise for mushroom pickers. There are no signs of civilization here. The third-coldest lake-is located 6 km above. Trout are caught in all the lakes, and the surrounding lakes are especially good for Hiking and horse riding tours Our travel Agency invites you to the walking tourist routes in the area of Kolsay lakes, which are located in the mountains of the Eastern part of the Kungei Alatau range, three hundred kilometers from Almaty. The nearest settlement is Saty village (280 km from Almaty) Kolsay Lakes have a dark blue water color, they are surrounded by flowering Alpine meadows, rocks and huge coniferous forests of Tien Shan spruce, and they are located in a cascade, one after another, in one huge and amazing beauty of the mountain gorge. They are called the 'blue necklace of the Northern Tien Shan' and, having seen them at least once, it is impossible to forget this splendor!

    DAY IN KAINDY

    Lake Kaindy

Kaindy lake ("birch" in Kazakh) was lost in a coniferous forest, at an altitude of 2000 m above sea level, in the middle of the Kungei-Alatau mountains. The name of the lake was probably given by an artificial birch grove located next to the lake. Lake Kuindi, about 400 m long and almost 30 m deep, was formed as a result of natural elements: water flooded the gorge, forming a natural gate in the middle of the lake. Coniferous trees were not completely submerged, their dried tops proudly rise above the water, like the masts of a sunken squadron. From their tops, you can enjoy amazing views of the Kainda gorge, SATA, and the Chilik river valley. Oddly enough, this unique lake in its beauty is almost unknown. Perhaps the reason for this is the attention of tourists to the Kolsay lakes, located nearby. Nevertheless, every year Kaindy lake becomes more and more popular.
