Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress
Sigiriya Frescoes Halfway up the rock face are the famous 5th-century frescoes, depicting celestial maidens, remarkable for their colour, movement, and preservation. Mirror Wall A polished rock surface once so smooth it reflected the king’s image. Today, it displays ancient inscriptions and poems dating back over a thousand years. Lion’s Paw Terrace At the entrance to the summit, travellers see the massive stone lion paws, the last remains of the grand lion-shaped gateway that gave Sigiriya its name. Wild Asian Elephants Udawalawe is one of the best places in Sri Lanka to see wild elephants year-round, often in large herds grazing near the reservoir.
