Agra Fort is a historical fort in the city of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was built by the Mughal emperor Akbar in the 16th century and served as both a military base and a royal residence for the Mughal rulers until 163812. The fort is made of red sandstone and has a circumference of about 1.5 miles (2.5 km), a height of 70 feet (21 metres), and a moat31. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is connected to the Taj Mahal by a swath of parkland and gardens31.
