Located in Cinnamon Gardens (Colombo 7) directly opposite the Town Hall, it serves as a central green oasis for relaxation, exercise, and family outings.
Also known as Lotus Theatre, Sri Lanka’s premier performing arts center, located in the heart of Colombo 07. Opened on December 15, 2011, it serves as a modern hub for large-scale theatrical productions, concerts, and international conferences. The building’s striking eight-petalled design is inspired by the 12th-century Nelum Pokuna (Lotus Pond) in Polonnaruwa, built by King Parakramabahu the Great. he facility spans roughly 14,000 square meters and consists of seven floors—five above ground and two below. : The project cost approximately LKR 3.08 billion, with a significant portion (LKR 2.43 billion) provided as a grant from the People's Republic of China. A state-of-the-art indoor venue with a seating capacity of 1,288, distributed across three tiers (including a VIP balcony).
Officially known as Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, is a leafy, vibrant boulevard in the heart of Colombo 07. It is widely celebrated as an open-air art gallery and a major cultural hub for the city. Local artists display their paintings, including oil on canvas and abstract works, along the railings of Viharamahadevi Park. It is a popular spot to purchase original Sri Lankan art at reasonable prices.
Established on January 1, 1877, is the largest and oldest museum in Sri Lanka. Housed in a grand white Victorian-Italianate building in Cinnamon Gardens, it serves as the primary repository for the island's cultural and natural heritage, featuring over 100,000 exhibits. Its founder was Sir William Henry Gregory the British Governor of Ceylon at the time.
Independence Square is one of Colombo’s most iconic national monuments and recreational spaces, located in the prestigious Cinnamon Gardens. It was built to commemorate Sri Lanka's independence from British rule on February 4, 1948. Memorial Hall, the centerpiece is an open-sided pavilion inspired by the Magul Maduwa (Royal Audience Hall) of the Kingdom of Kandy. It features 60 intricately carved stone pillars and is guarded by statues of stone lions. D. S. Senanayake Statue: At the front of the hall stands a statue of Don Stephen Senanayake, the first Prime Minister of independent Sri Lanka, known as the "Father of the Nation".
The Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) is an iconic convention center and landmark located in the Cinnamon Gardens area of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Established in 1973, it was the first purpose-built conference center in Asia and remains a premier venue for national and international events. The complex was a gift from the People's Republic of China in memory of S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka from 1956 to 1959. It gained international fame by hosting the 5th Non-Aligned Movement Summit in 1976, which was attended by over 85 world leaders.
Aukana Buddha Statue in Colombo is located on Bauddhaloka Mawatha in Colombo 07, directly opposite the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). The statue was established in 1970 to mark the 5th anniversary of the BMICH. It is a full-size, 40-foot-tall standing statue, mirroring the height of the original 5th-century masterpiece found near Anuradhapura.
