Pick up will be done at 8:00 a.m., from the address or hotel where travelers will stay the night before the excursion.
Start at 08h00 from your hotel or address within Quito's district. We will travel south along the avenue of the volcanoes.
09h30 we will arrive to Cotopaxi Volcano (5.897 m.a.s.l.), in order to be surrounded by pristine forests, mountains, lagoons, wild horses and fascinating ecosystems that gradually change as you gain altitude.
You will see also the exotic wildlife in its habitat while you participate of a walk around Limpiopungo Lagoon (3.800 m.a.s.l.). You will also have the opportunity to drive up to the parking lot, located at 4.500 meters above sea level (15,000 feet), in order to hike up to 4.800 meters where the refuge “Jose Rivas” is located (16,000 feet)!
We visit San Agustin de Callo, an impressive farm house in Ecuador, built over Inca structures! In the afternoon we arrive to Hacienda La Ciénega that was shelter of Alexander Von Humboldt in the nineteenth century!
We leave at 08h00, towards the Indian market of Saquisilí (Thursday). Then we drive towards Quilotoa Volcano that shows a spectacular view of the Andean mountains, passing by the ancestral canyon of the Toachi River and many indigenous communities and farmlands!
We visit the hut of an indigenous family where you will have the opportunity to interact with the local people and maybe learn a few Kichwa words, which is the native language of the Andean region!
Visit the local and unique Indian market of Zumbahua (Saturday). The tour includes a long walk inside the crater of Quilotoa Volcano, where a very attractive emerald-colour-lagoon is located (3.600 meters). The way back to the top of the crater, where the parking lot is, takes about one hour walking, or there is the option of renting a mule to go back up there!
