Then you will have the opportunity to hike and be surrounded by hundreds of llamas while we learn all about the Caranquis, one of the most developed and unknown civilizations in South America, that defended their territory against the Inca invasion in the XV Century until early years of the XVI century in the epic battle of Yaguarcocha! Caranquis never managed stone carvings, only volcanic tuff, locally well-known as cangagua and adobe. However, they built big monuments as flat topped pyramids used as ceremonial sites or astronomical observatories. They used to bury their dead people under artificial hills called “Tolas”. After our unforgettable hike through the Inga Ñan (Inca trail), admiring the stunning views of the "Avenue of the Volcanoes".
