Originating in the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-577 AD), it was initially built for strategic defense. Under Ming Dynasty's Zhu Yuanzhang (1368-1644), General Xu Da reconstructed it on ruins, solidifying its role as a northern defense cornerstone. Further strengthened by Tan Lun and Qi Jiguang in 1569, it strategically linked Juyongguan and Gubeikou, safeguarding the capital and imperial tombs. Today, Mutianyu stands as a testament to ancient engineering prowess and strategic wisdom, attracting history and nature enthusiasts alike with its well-preserved sections, towering watchtowers, and breathtaking vistas.
