The short trek begins just north of Kathmandu in Shivapuri National Park. A forgotten gem in the Himalayas, this park forms the northern boundary of the Kathmandu Valley. The park is home to bear, leopards, deer and more. You cross the green hills, before entering the jungle. On the rise, see the snowcapped peaks to the north as the mountains amaze you with their tantalizing beauty. The first day culminates in a night at Chisapani. This was the traditional starting point for trekking in years gone by. Nice guest houses and good food will delight you as you spend the night. The next day trek the northern edge of Shivapuri National Park with mountain views all along the way. You are following the northern rim of the Kathmandu Valley eastward to reach the top of Nagarkot Hill, the prime spot to watch magnificent Himalayan sunrises and sunsets. Nagarkot features great hotels with a wide variety of foods. Watch the sun go down over the snowcapped peaks before turning in for the night. In the morning, rise early to watch the sun rise over the Himalayas. From on top of Nagarkot, you can see four of the 8000+ meter massifs including Mt. Everest on clear days. From there, trek your final day to the ancient village of Changu Narayan. This village has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in its entirety. At the highest point is the oldest Hindu temple in the Kathmandu Valley, dating back over 800 years. See traditional Newari craftsmen working in wood and stone as they have done for centuries.
