This wonderful holiday offers a ‘Big Five’ safari in Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park followed by a tour of the Drakensberg in Central KwaZulu-Natal. Your adventure begins in the Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park. Thereafter we proceed to Isimangaliso Wetlands Park, a World Heritage Site where we do a game safari and a Hippo and Croc Boat Cruise. We then proceed to go to the majestic Drakensberg Mountains for hiking. This is an unforgettable 5 days.

Departing from Durban at 6am, the journey takes you through the scenic landscapes of KwaZulu-Natal en route to the renowned Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, the oldest proclaimed reserve in Africa. On arrival, you’ll set off on an exciting game safari, venturing into the heart of Big Five territory in an open 4x4 vehicle. The reserve is famous for its successful rhino conservation and is also home to elephants, lions, buffalo, leopards, giraffes, and a wide variety of antelope and bird species. As you explore its rolling hills and savannahs, the thrill of spotting wildlife in their natural habitat makes this an unforgettable safari experience before returning later in the day.
After an exciting safari in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi, the journey continues to the charming town of St Lucia, set within the heart of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This picturesque village is surrounded by stunning estuaries, coastal forests, and pristine beaches, offering a peaceful retreat after a day of adventure. St Lucia is also famous for its resident hippos, which can often be spotted wandering through the town at night. You’ll check into your accommodation for an overnight stay, with time to relax and soak in the tranquil atmosphere of this unique destination.
Enjoy a hippo and croc boat cruise in the St Lucia Estuary. Get close to the crocs and hippos as your boat sails. This is an experience not to be forgotten. This is followed by a game drive in one of the game reserves in Isimangaliso. Get to see elephants, zebras, kudu, antelope, buffalo and many more
A game safari in the Dukuduku section of iSimangaliso Wetland Park offers a rich and diverse wildlife experience from the comfort of a closed vehicle. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to an incredible variety of ecosystems, ranging from coastal forests and wetlands to grasslands and savannah. As you explore, you may encounter elephants, buffalo, hippos, and antelope, along with an impressive array of birdlife, including fish eagles and kingfishers. The closed vehicle provides both safety and comfort, allowing you to enjoy the scenery and wildlife sightings at ease while learning fascinating insights about the park’s biodiversity from your guide.
Cape Vidal combines the game reserve and the sea. On the game drive we are likely to spot a lot of different animals such as kudu, zebra, giraffe, elephant, rhino and many more. Our highly knowledgeable guide will inform you about all the ins and out of the park, ecosystems and a bit of culture! After the game drive we travel to Durban for the night.
In Phezulu Safari Park we visit the Retile Park where see a big number of reptiles such as crocodiles, snakes, and others. We also watch African traditional dancing performances.
From Phezulu Safari Park we travel to Howick Falls to see the 95 metre water fall.
From Howick Falls we visit the Nelson Mandela Capture Site, also in Howick. Here we go into the Museum first. A lot of information on the war of liberation can be found. Thereafter we visit the Nelson Mandela world famous monument, also on the grounds of the Capture Site.
From Nelson Mandela Capture Site travel to the Drakensberg Mountains Region for the night.
On Day 5 after breakfast we go on a hiking tour of the Drakensberg Mountains. The largest mountain range in South Africa is a truly magical place. It’s no wonder that J.R.R. Tolkien saw this landscape as inspiration for the part of Middle Earth called the Misty Mountains. The uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park is home to 35 000 examples of San rock paintings and a huge diversity of protected plant and animal species After hiking we head back to Durban arriving at around 6pm.
