This seasonal birdwatching experience (January–July) takes place in the Curicancha Reserve, one of the top locations in Monteverde to observe the Resplendent Quetzal in its natural cloud forest habitat. The tour is thoughtfully designed by a specialized local naturalist guide, using carefully selected trails and timing to maximize wildlife activity and increase the chances of spotting quetzals and 30–40 bird species during a single walk.
Operated in small groups for a more personal and immersive experience, the tour is ideal for birdwatching, photography, and learning. A high-definition spotting scope is included, allowing detailed close-up views of birds and wildlife that would otherwise be difficult to see. What to expect
This 2–3 hour guided walk is carefully timed and routed through prime quetzal habitat, significantly increasing your chances of spotting this iconic bird. In addition to the quetzal, you may observe 30–40 bird species, including toucanets, hummingbirds, tanagers, euphonias, and other cloud forest specialties.
Beyond birds, Curicancha also offers opportunities to encounter Spider Monkeys, White-faced Capuchins, Armadillos, Coatis, and Agoutis, along with beautiful wild native orchids blooming along the trails.
To ensure exceptional viewing and photography opportunities, the tour includes a high-definition spotting scope, allowing close-up views of quetzals and other wildlife—even when perched high in the canopy.
