    Civita di Bagnoregio

Civita became known as “the dying town” due to the forces of nature – earthquakes, landslides and floods – that have threatened its survival since the 17th century. But far from being a death knell, the label – which even features on signposts leading to the village – has proven to be a deft stroke of marketing. A series of landslides in 2014 and 2015 saw some of its medieval properties plummet into the ravine when the sides of the volcanic outcrop gave way. Geologists have described it as melting like an ice cream. However, the disaster encouraged a group of Italy’s cultural heavyweights, including Oscar-winning composer Ennio Morricone and director Bernardo Bertolucci, to back a petition calling for Civita to be given world heritage status by Unesco. The regional government of Lazio pledged more investment to preserve what was becoming increasingly recognised as a cultural and historical gem, and a bid for the site to be listed was submitted in March this year.

    Antinori nel Chianti Classico

A Window on the World of Chianti Classico The winery overlooks the countryside from a terrace surrounded by vineyards planted with Chianti Classico's most typical grape, Sangiovese, together with other varieties that were historically planted nearby: Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Malvasia Nera, and Mammolo. Tuscan art of every kind is celebrated at the Antinori family’s elegant headquarters, from the architecture slipping it surreptitiously into the hillside to the museum space hosting historical and contemporary exhibitions; local produce goes into rustically-inspired but polished dishes at the Rinuccio 1180 restaurant (named after the family’s first recorded winemaker) and watch the art of winemaking itself in the advanced and sustainable gravitational facility – opened in 2012, it marks the next chapter in a 26-generation history. Finish in the cubed glass tasting room that hangs out above the cellar as if suspended over the barrels.

San Gimignano, a journey through the charm of the Middle Ages and the magic of Nature. A beautiful town nestled between the Sienese hills and the sunny Val d'Elsa hills, surrounded by thirteenth-century walls and rich in still intact medieval charm: this is San Gimignano, a small and much-loved Tuscan pearl. While only 14 of the original tower houses have survived, San Gimignano has retained its feudal atmosphere and appearance, embellished with several notable palaces during the 12th and 14th century. The town also has several masterpieces of Italian art dating to the 14th and 15th centuries. Wine once appreciated by popes and princes, Vernaccia has been able to combine over the centuries the excellent quality to the incomparable landscape of the territory of San Gimignano. The Vernaccia was the first Italian white wine which received the DOC concession, in 1966.
