Itinerary

Duration: 6 days (approximately)
    Day 1

    Kilimanjaro Climbing starts from Rongai Gate (1950 m) – 1st Caves Camp (2,600 m)

    1 stop
  • 1
    Mount Kilimanjaro

The starting point for your trip on the Kilimanjaro Rongai Route is at Marangu's Park Gate, after which you will have transportation to the Rongai trail in front of you (1,950m). Usually shipping about 3 hours to Rongai door. If the weather permits, you can bring a packed lunch to Nelemoru. This experiment will take you through cypress plantations and mountain forests. You might spot giant monkeys. The road ends at the first Cave camp (2,600 m) and it gradually allows you to enjoy the surroundings. Porters and cooks move faster, so when you get to camp, you'll find them waiting and having set up a tent for you. They might even have popcorn ready for you and something hot to drink. At the camp, you will have hot water to shower and then change into the clothes you walk, keeping warm. Enjoy the camp environment while waiting for dinner time. At night, mountain temperatures can drop to freezing, be prepared.

    Mount Kilimanjaro

From Cave Camp #1, start your day with a light breakfast, followed by moor-style vegetation wrapped in heather. This trail will take you to the second Cave Camp (3450m), where you will have lunch. After lunch and rest, you continue to the 3rd cave campsite (3,600m), alternative name (Kikelelwa Cave). The 6 day trip is the best as it has plenty of time to acclimate. When you arrive at Kikelelwa cave, the porter has prepared the tent for you, hot water for washing, coffee/tea and snacks (same process as the day before). The camp is surrounded by a series of small caves in a valley slightly below the saddle. After dinner you'll be heading to bed, brace yourself for a crazy cold night.

Start your day of hiking on an easy and moderate incline, you will notice changes in the landscape and the pass is now steeper and you will soon reach the Mawenzi Tarn camp at an altitude of 4330m. This is a very remarkable campsite as it is located in a depression below the peak of Mawenzi, close to a small lake. Arriving at the camp, the procedures will be the same as the previous days, followed by a hot lunch followed by a few hours of relaxation. You can take advantage of this afternoon to rest and explore the scenery around the campsite. You can walk a few laps to some of the ridges and towers in this area, which will eventually provide great views of Kibo. For well acclimatization and a breathtaking view of Mawenzi, this is the place to be. Enjoy a beautiful sunset from your campsite, then dinner and overnight.

  • Day 4

Kilimanjaro Climbing from Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330 m) to Kibo Hut (4,700 m)

    1 stop
  • 4
    Mount Kilimanjaro

After a light breakfast, you'll begin your day's program with a hike up a small ridge before an easy hike on a nice trail located in the northern part of the saddle. With good weather, the view around the area is stunning. The type of vegetation that will dominate the walk today is an alpine desert with little grass and sometimes eternal flowers. At this point, Rongai Road will connect with Marangu Road to the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The way to the top here is the same as from the Marangu route. The last part of the day to Kibo's Hut is steeper. Arrive at Kibo's hideout at an altitude of 47.00 m at lunchtime. Hot water for washing and other procedures will be done, fully rested and acclimatized and ready for the final part of your 6 day Kilimanjaro to Rongai trekking route.

  • Day 5

    Kilimanjaro Climbing - Summit Attempt (Kibo Hut (4,700 m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Horombo Hut (3,720 m))

    Mount Kilimanjaro

On the day of the summit on Rongai Road, the wake-up time will be around 11am to 11:30AM . To reach the top from Gillman`s Point, it takes about 1.5 hours on foot. The rest of the hike is usually snow-covered and walks along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak. On your way to Uhuru Peak, you'll pass Stella Point's stand at an altitude of 5,752m; This point is where the other route comes to the edge. You're almost at the top now, but it can be very difficult. Congratulations on reaching the roof of Africa through the challenging 6-day Rongai Road. At the top of Uhuru, don't expect to take long, just a few minutes is enough at such a height, so you can take pictures before you start going downhill. Now it's time to head back to the Kibo 4,700 hut where your lunch will be served. From the Kibo hideout, it takes about 3 hours to reach the Horombo hideout at an altitude of 3,720 m.
