Explore breathtaking fjord landscapes and the wildlife of the Arctic while searching for the world’s largest mammal: the whale.
In November to January, the orcas, humpback whales and other whales gather in the fjords close to Alta for their big herring-feast. These gentle giants enjoy their "food platter", and to witness this remarkable sight will give you memories for life.
And this experience does not end here. The area is also home to the Arctic dolphins, the majestic sea eagle, with a wingspan up to 2.5 metres and other seabirds - species.
We use different boats according to the size of the group and the weather conditions, but our local guide will always accompany our group. Under the boat transfer to the hot-spot and in periods when the whales are diving, you can stay inside in the warm cabin and enjoy hot chocolate and snacks.

What's Included
Meeting and pickup
Pick up time is aprox. 10 min before the tour starts but be aware that we can be a few minutes delayed due to several pick up places. Our guide will be there in a black minibus.
If you are driving your own or rental car, we can meet at our office at 9:30. Our office is located in Komsaveien 2, 9511 Alta. There we have free and safe parking place for your car. Wait for us patiently if any delay with pick up of other clients.
Itinerary

Alta (Pass by)
After the pick up, our guide will inform you about the itinerary of the day and will take you to a short tour by minibus in Alta Center, where you will be able to see the Northern Lights Cathedral and get to know interesting information about the history of this important city in the North of Norway

(Pass by)
While driving by the Altafjord, our guide will tell you more about the history of this fjord from the stone age until modern times. We will also pass by the Rock Carvings Museum, inscribed into UNESCO’s World Heritage List as the only prehistoric monument in Norway. The tour from Alta to Burdfjord will take aprox. 1,5 hours passing through majestic fjord landscapes.

Arriving to Burfjord, it will take us 1 min. walk to the pier, where our captain will take you to an exciting boat tour on the fjord searching for wildlife and whales. We will sail for 3 hours into Kvænangsfjorden while admiring the fantastic coastal landscape.

Alta (Pass by)
After this adventure, we will drive back to Alta aprox 1,5 hours, passing again beautiful fjord landscapes. The entire tour is estimated to take 6 hours, including the transportation Alta - Burfjord - Alta.

- Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health
- Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
- Travel time is included on the total duration of the tour
- The boat starting point for this tour can change depending on the location of the whales, but we will transfer you there from your pick up place.
- Choose Alta Havn (Alta Harbour) as your pick up place if you are coming to Alta by cruise ship. Our guide will be there looking for you at the parking place with a black minibus.
