  The Temple of Artemis

  The Temple of Artemis was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and one of the most important religious sites of antiquity. Dedicated to the goddess Artemis, it made Ephesus a major pilgrimage destination. The magnificent temple featured 127 Ionic columns, each approximately 19 meters high. Beyond its religious importance, it also served as a financial center and is considered one of the earliest examples of banking in the ancient world.
