Our first stop is Perge, about 15 kilometers from Antalya. The Trojans, under the leadership of the oracle Kalhas, are said to have founded this ancient city. In this historic city, we can observe a Roman theater, a splendid stadium with seating for 10.000 spectators, a Hellenistic gate, an agora, Roman baths, columns along the main thoroughfares, a nymphaeum, etc.
The ancient city of Aspendos was one of the first to manufacture coins in the fifth century BC. It was the greatest city of ancient Pamphylia and the hub of trade for the southern part of modern-day Anatolia. A school of philosophy was created here, where many of the philosophers of the time studied.
An important tourist attraction and destination is the immaculately preserved and renovated Aspendos amphitheater, which was constructed in 155 AD. With its exceptional acoustics and stage décor, it has the capacity to hold up to 55,000 spectators and is currently used for significant concerts, festivals, and cultural events.
