This tour shows you the culture and history of Costa Rica through panoramic visits to museums and historical sites in the city of San José. On this tour we will visit sites of historical interest such as the National Theater, a national monument built by Costa Rican hands in 1897, also known as "The Jewel of San José", the Costa Rican gold museum (site of great archaeological interest), as well as many stops in several points of equal importance in the city, such as: Embassies, National Stadium, The University of Costa Rica, former train station, the national liquor factory, supreme election tribunal, legislative assembly, the metal building, parks, in short, an introduction to our capital city, as well as information on topics of great importance including economy, culture, politics, religion, and current affairs in general.
The tour will begin with us trekking south along the Panamerican Highway until we reach the base of the behemoth “Iztaru” (a name of an indigenous village that was situated on the flanks of the volcano, and a likely candidate as a possible origin for the current name of the Irazu Volcano). And, at the very top of the summit, on a clear day, one can be privy to an unforgettable bird’s eye view of both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. As we descend to the city of Cartago we will stop at the Virgin of the Angels Basilica – a famous peregrination site for many believers, some of which travel for days or even weeks on foot, in a pilgrimage of faith, to the site. Next, we will we will continue to the Valley of Orosi, an area that overflows with unparalleled beauty. We will be able to visit one of the few remaining colonial churches and we will stop to enjoy a tasty typical lunch at one of the local restaurants.
We will Take the Pan-American Highway to the City of Alajuela, observing the Monument to the Farmer, the Monument to Juan Santamaría and the famous Parque de los Mangos. In the ascent we will make a stop for a brief explanation about our golden grain, the coffee, and we will continue the journey through fern, flower and strawberry crops. . Continuing towards the Caribbean area, we will stop to discover the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a natural park, where we will walk through spectacular trails that will lead us to the Magia Blanca Waterfall (the largest and most spectacular in the area). In the park we will also visit the butterfly and bird observatories, as well as the impressive gallery of hummingbirds, the aviary, the old house, a frog and serpentarium. After the walk we will take a delicious buffet lunch, then start the return to San José
Enroute to the Arenal Volcano, we will stop at the famous town of Sarchi, known as the birthplace of Costa Rica’s Artisans. In Sarchi, you will be able to appreciate many of the art crafts and souvenirs that Costa Rica has to offer. Also you will see the world’s largest ox cart according to the Guinness Book. The journey will then continue, traversing diverse plantations with agricultural products, including pineapple and plantain farms, mango groves, ornamental plants and even cattle ranches until arriving to the small town of La Fortuna, and stopping to enjoy lunch at a cozy restaurant with a magnificent view of the volcano. Then you will go on to relax at one of the best hot springs in the area where you will revel in the cleansing and rejuvenating effects of the thermal waters,
