Learn the ancient skills of survival in the woods, including how to build a shelter, gather water, make a fire, and forage edible plants or set up traps for food. Both novice campers and seasoned backpackers will benefit from hands-on activities during this 5-hour class with a naturalist instructor. The session takes place in a redwood forest of Marin County, located north of San Francisco.

Heading north on Sir Francis Drake Blvd out of Fairfax, Camp Arequipa will be on your left. If you see the entrance to Camp Bothin (also called Bothin Youth Center), you've gone just about 1/2 mile too far.

What to expect

Come learn the ancient skill of survival – shelter, water, fire, food. No matter what your background, from the novice camper to the seasoned backpacker, there is something for you in this class. Shelter construction, fire-by-friction, water collection/purification, and food ID/harvesting!
