Tour end at the airport
Early morning drive toward Kerung, the Nepal Tibet border town. En-route enjoy beautiful Nepalese countryside passing along small towns, rivers & forested areas. Upon arrival at Kerung, meet the Tibetan representatives/guide and drive to the Nepal-Tibet border. After clearing the necessary immigration paperwork and continue our drive to Kerung town (20 Km).
Kerung is a village development committee in Solukhumbu District in the Sagarmatha Zone of north-eastern Nepal and the border town in between Tibet and Nepal.
After breakfast, start the journey to the new Tingri. En-route pass by the most sacred cave of Milarepa Yogi dated back to the 11th century and also the birthplace of Milarepa. The drive continues along Pekutso Lake to old Tingri through Gongthang La pass (5000m). One can observe Mt. Shisa Pangma on the right side and Pekutso on the left along the way. If the weather permits Mt. Everest can be spotted on the way to Old Tingri. After an hour’s drive on friendship highway will reach new Tingri.
Gangga or Tingri is located in the south of Tibet and is often used as a base by mountain climbers preparing to ascend Mount Everest or Cho Oyu.
At the break of the dawn around, 04:45 am start the tour to visit Everest Base Camp driving past high mountain passes, Gyantso la 5,200mts, and Tsola 4,500mts and several beautiful villages. Walk around 5 minutes ahead from Rongbuk Monastery to the Everest Base Camp viewpoint. Then return back from Base camp and drive to Shigatse. Visit Tashi lhumpu Monastery on Shigatse.
Everest Base Camp in Tibet is the North Base Camp of the mountain at 5,150 metres. South Base Camp is in Nepal at an altitude of 5,364 metres. South Base Camp (Nepal) is used when climbing via the southeast ridge, while North Base Camp (Tibet) is used when climbing via the northeast ridge.
Rongbuk monastery is located near the base of the north side of Mount Everest at 4,980 meters) at the end of the Dzakar Chu valley. Rongbuk is claimed to be the highest-elevation monastery in the world.
Start the journey around 9 am for the drive to Gyantse. Upon reaching Gyantse, have your lunch and visit Palchoe monastery and Khubum Pagoda stupa. Explore around the old town of Gyantse during the afternoon.
Gyantse is a town located in Gyantse County in Tibet and was historically considered the third largest and most prominent town in the Tibet region.
A Kumbum is a multi-storied aggregate of Buddhist chapels in Tibetan Buddhism. The most famous Kumbum forms part of Palcho Monastery. The Kumbum stupa at Gyantse is a three-dimensional mandala meant to portray the Buddhist cosmos.
Today is the final drive to Lhasa passing along three high mountain passes namely Simi La, karo La, Kampa La respectively. Among all Karo La (5,000m) is the highest pass with its beautiful glaciers. One can see the beautiful Yamdroke Lake from the top of Kampa La pass. After a nice lunch at Nakartse located just between the Yamdrok Lake and Karo La glaciers continue the drive to Lhasa.
Yamdrok Lake is a freshwater lake in Tibet and is one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet. It is over 72 km long. The lake is surrounded by many snow-capped mountains and is fed by numerous small streams.
Karola Glacier is a beautiful glacier perched between Ngarzhag County of Shannan and Gyantse County of Shigatse en-route Lhasa. Tourists will take a short stop here to admire its authentic beauty.
Today is Lhasa sightseeing tour with visits to the Potala Palace - the winter palace of Dalai Lama. The palace is located on the red hill which provides a great view of Lhasa City. Bustling religious worshippers can constantly seen at the palace. The most valuable collection of Potala Palace is the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and meditation cave of 33rd great king of Tibet. Later on, visit the famed Jokhang Temple devout Tibetans can be spotted praying. There’s the glistering statue of Sakyamuni which is considered as Tibetan Buddhism’s rarity. Then take a walk around the ancient Barkhor Street observing age-old art and architecture. Also visit Norbulingka built from 1755 and served as the traditional summer residence of the successive Dalai Lamas. Besides you can also taste the local dishes and tea with locals in tea shops at the market.
The Potala Palace is a dzong fortress in Lhasa and the winter palace of the Dalai Lamas from 1649 to 1959. Currently, it has been a museum and a World Heritage Site since 1994.
The Jokhang Temple is a Buddhist temple in Barkhor Square in Lhasa. Tibetans consider this temple as the most sacred and important temple in Tibet.
Barkhor market is the area of narrow streets and a public square located around Jokhang Temple in Lhasa.
Norbulingka built from 1755 and served as the traditional summer residence of the successive Dalai Lamas from the 1780s up until the 14th Dalai Lama's exile in 1959.
After breakfast, visit the two important monasteries in Lhasa. Drepung Monastery founded in 1416 by Jamyang Choge and one of the great three Gelug monasteries of Tibet. Jamyang Choge is one of the main Tsongkhapa’s disciples. Also, visit the biggest monastery Kitchen inside the monastery and explore the Buddhist Sculpture Carving workshop near Drepung. Later on head out to Sera Monastery another one of the great three Gelung monasteries in Tibet. One can witness the Monks debate at around 3 – 5 pm.
Sera Monastery is one of the "great three" Gelug university monasteries of Tibet, It is located 1.25 miles north of Lhasa and about 5 km north of the Jokhang temple.
Drepung Monastery located at the foot of Mount Gephel, is one of the "great three" Gelug university gompas of Tibet. The other two are Ganden Monastery and Sera Monastery. Drepung is the largest of all Tibetan monasteries and is located on the Gambo Utse mountain, five kilometers from the western suburb of Lhasa.
