One of the favorite hikes in Switzerland is the spectacular Stoos Ridge Trail, located in the canton of Schwyz, about an hour from Lucerne. The journey begins with a ride on the Stoos funicular, the steepest funicular railway in the world, which climbs to the car-free mountain village of Stoos. From the village, most hikers take the chairlift to Klingenstock, where the ridge walk begins. The hike from Klingenstock to Fronalpstock takes around two hours and follows a well-maintained mountain path along a dramatic ridgeline. Along the way, you'll enjoy sweeping views of rugged mountain peaks, alpine pastures, and deep valleys. The trail ends at Fronalpstock, where you'll find a panoramic viewpoint, a mountain restaurant, and another chairlift that returns you to Stoos. This hike is especially beautiful from late spring through autumn, when the alpine meadows are in bloom and the mountain views are at their best.
