Travelers will visit an organic spice farm on this guided activity that allows travelers to experience different spices grown in the Island. Soon as we reach the farm, our guide will start explaining how spices like Cinnamon, Cardamom, Ginger, Vanilla and others are cultivated, harvested and even how they are used in term of medicine or for cooking. Climbing of coconut palm and buying spices from local community spice shop is also part of the tour.

Later, travelers will join Local Zanzibari women in the making of Zanzibar local cuisine and they will fully participate in the activity and then have lunch in the farm before making their way home.

What to expect

This short guided activity will provide you with a rare experience proving the reason why Zanzibar is referred to as Spice Island. The class takes you to the small spice gardens and farms in Zanzibar rural areas where local communities grow variety of Spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon and many others medicinal and ornamental with variety of tropical fruits grown in Zanzibar. It's a golden opportunity to get to learn how to use different plants for herbal medicine, and local Zanzibar cuisines, which are potential part of Zanzibar daily life. The activity will also give you the chance to taste different fruits grown into the Island as well as experiencing the climbing of coconut palm by local coconut climbers from the spice farm.

Later you will meet local Zanzibari mamas who are there to teach you how to prepare local Zanzibar Cuisine. You will be part of the cooking throughout and enjoy your lunch in the farm with soft drinks and tropical fruits before making your way back to the resort.
